Independent vehicle service and mechanical repair network myFavouriteGarage.com is positioning itself as the ‘missing link’ for buyers of electric vehicles, by developing service agreements with electric vehicle suppliers that do not have a nationwide network of service agents.

myFavouriteGarage.com, which has 400 members, is an approved service agent for Aixam Mega right across the country. It has also recently appointed three members as service agents for Modec vehicles at Centerparcs holiday parks, and has reached an agreement with London-based electric vehicle dealer EV Stores to provide ongoing service facilities for business and private buyers of its range of electrics, which includes cars, vans, scooters and bikes.

The myFavouriteGarage.com marketing manager said: “Businesses in particular are looking to buy electric vehicles (EVs) to meet carbon emissions targets and save on fuel, but they need to know that they can keep their cars and vans in good working order easily.

“Our nationwide network is well-placed to fill the gap and make specialist servicing expertise available locally.”

EV Stores’ Phil Retsas said: “With the recent Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) initiatives to promote EV’s, particularly in the North East and Milton Keynes, we anticipate that the sale of electrics will accelerate across the UK.
“myFavouriteGarage.com’s independent dealer network will provide EV Stores and its customers with the high level of after sales support that they rightly expect, enabling us to sell outside the London area.”
When electric vehicles are sold into a specific local area, myFavouriteGarage.com identifies its local members and invites them to undertake specific training provided by the manufacturer or distributor, to enable them to undertake all necessary service and repair work on an ongoing basis.
The availability of effective service networks and recharging infrastructure are two key barriers to take-up of electric vehicle technology, which is readily available in the UK now.
Milton Keynes and the North East have won grant funding under the Plugged-In Places programme to install electric vehicle charging points, and a second round of bidding this summer is expected to see other regions given similar grants. The development of a re-charging infrastructure across the UK is seen as crucial in boosting the uptake of electric vehicle technology.
